Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious health problems. For many, the summer is a time for holidays and visits to see family and friends, which seems to be driving a recent rise in measles cases.
The free NHS MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine is given in two doses:
First at 1 year old
Second at around 3 years and 4 months
Two doses provide the most effective protection.
The summer months are a good opportunity to make sure your child’s vaccines are up to date to give them the best possible protection for the new school term.
If you’re not sure if you’ve missed a dose, no matter your age, you can contact your GP practice to book an appointment.
